Africa Public Service Day 2007.
The First Pan African Conference of Ministers of Public and Civil Service held in Tangier, Morocco in 1994 resolved that the 23 rd of June of every year should be celebrated as the Africa Day of Administration and Civil Service. The objective of the Africa Public Service Day (APSD) is to enable public servants throughout the African continent to ‘celebrate the virtue of community service'. It is a day when Public Servants showcase themselves as humble servants of the people.
Zimbabwe commemorated this day for the second time on 23 June 2007 at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera. The theme for this year's APSD commemorations was: ‘ Promoting Transparency with Emphasis on Ethics and Anticorruption '. Emphasis was placed on enhancing transparency and ethics as tools for effective and efficient service delivery, building public trust through zero tolerance to corrupt practices and promoting the highest level of integrity among public servants to service Zimbabwe better.
The commemoration of the Africa Public Service Day provided Zimbabwe with an opportunity:
For Commitment to quality service delivery by public servants;
For Reflection on Public Service by all stakeholders;
For coming together by public servants to commemorate their own contribution to the development of Zimbabwe; and
For bringing together various aspects affecting public service in a non-threatening environment. |
