Diplomatic honeymoon over

The honeymoon is over for those who take appointment to Zimbabwe’s Diplomatic Missions abroad as an opportunity for holidaymaking. Each mission will be assessed on the amount of investment and trade business brought back home to Zimbabwe.

This was said by the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Dr. Sibusiso Moyo as he addressed officers due for deployment to Foreign Missions abroad.

“We should measure staff that is measurable, not visits but actual investment. That will reflect your performance,” said Dr. Moyo

The Minister informed the officers that it will not be business as usual as they will be expected to drive the “Zimbabwe is open for business,” mantra.

“Gone are the days when postings were associated with pay package” Dr. Moyo added.

Dr. Moyo informed the group of officers that telling the story of the Second Republic should be made easier since they all experienced the entry of the advent of the New Dispensation in November 2017 and now the elections widely declared free, fair and credible including by the courts.

“I would be naive for you on the ground to fail to express the new Zimbabwe,” Minister Moyo advised the officers.

The group of forty-two officers is the first to be deployed to Zimbabwe’s forty-five Diplomatic Missions across the globe since the New Dispensation.
