PSC Chairperson Addresses Ministry Strategic Planning Workshop

On 3 December 2018, the Secretary for Service Commission, Ambassador Wutawunashe, addressed the Ministry’s 2018 Strategic Planning Workshop on behalf of the Chairman to the Service Commission, Dr. Vincent Hungwe. He described the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade as occupying an integral position and playing a critical role in marketing Zimbabwe, attracting investment and basically promoting the image of a new business-oriented nation.

Dr Hungwe informed participants that for the success of the Second Republic, a new narrative should be clearly filtered and conveyed. The Ministry, he added, with the widest geographical spread across the globe, must ventilate and lead the transformation of the Public Service to a new culture blueprint and practice that exhibits elevated levels of professionalism, ethics, accountability and a consistent focus on the achievement of results and outcomes that impact positively on the lives of all citizens.

Following the introduction of a leaner cabinet, Dr. Hungwe informed the meeting that the Commission had initiated dialogue to conclude discussions on line Ministries’ mandates and the new structures. As the nation chats the way forward the Commission urged line Ministries to, under Transitional Stabilization Programme, conclude their plans for facilitation before the beginning of 2019, he added.

Dr. Hungwe said efforts of gatherings like this workshop must manifest themselves in a range of development indicators that are collectively symptomatic of an upper middle income country and society by 2030.

Participants were urged to put shoulders to the wheel for the Workshop to come up with outcomes that address the following:

  • Culture;
  • Effectiveness to performance management;
  • Developing structures that support their mandates;
  • Capacitating the Human Resource;
  • Mechanisms for client feedback; and
  • Effective delivery and retention of skills.
